This mosaic of elongated lagoons, connected by creeks, savannas and logwood thickets is excellent for
migrant birds during the dry season and is famous for the abundance of bird species. Some of the spectacular birds you can spot in the Crooked Tree area are the
jabiru stork,
the largest bird in the Americas, the peregrine, the world's fastest falcon and
snail kites. Also Along the rivers banks look out for crocodiles,
turtles and iguanas.

Aguacate Lagoon-
The Aguacate Lagoon is a herbaceous swamp with permanent water-logged
vegetation. There is a diversity of secondary growth sedges around
approximately 5 acres of fresh water. It is an attractive habitat for a wide
variety of both resident and migrant birds. There is a trail around the
lagoon where you may encounter some wild life and spot some medicinal plants.

Belize Zoo-
Belize's rarest animals are kept as close to their natural habitats as possible on 29 acres of tropical savanna. Over 125 native animals are kept in the Belize Zoo. The zoo keeps animals which were orphaned or born at the zoo, rehabilitated animals, or sent to The Belize Zoo as gifts from other zoological institutions.
The Belize Zoo believes that by bringing the people of Belize closer to the animals which are their natural heritage, they will feel proud of these special resources and want to protect them for future generations.

Macal River canoeing-
This river journey begins with a gentle paddling downstream on the easy flowing waters of the Macal
River. Our experienced guides will help you to identify the different
species of plants, birds and iguanas while they lay on top of the trees that grow on the river side. Paddling downstream you
can stop at many swimming spots that the Macal River has to offer and enjoy
the scenery and a refreshing swim. After paddling for three hours you have the
opportunity of visiting a natural trail, Blue Morpho
butterfly farm and a natural museum that is located on a private resort (Chaa
Creek) before an easy paddle back down to San Ignacio.
