They once were
sedimentary silts, clays, and lands that were deformed and altered by lent and
pressure when molten igneous rock welled up under them and congealed into
granites that are now exposed in the middle of the Mountain Pine Ridge.

Geologically and biologically the Maya Mountains and its sub region, Mountain
Pine Ridge of Belize, are unique in Central America. Rocks approximately 340 million years old,
called Santa Rosa group (metamorphic sandy and clayey rocks), are found in the area.
Mountain Pine Ridge is at list 300 sq. miles of reserve managed by the forestry department for tourism as well as controlled timber harvest. Within these 300
sq miles of pine exist big pockets of limestone with broadleaf forest; and because of the limestone, caves were formed. Pine Ridge also boasts
Central Americas tallest water falls(1000 ft falls)
