Barton Creek Cave

Investigations at Barton creek have provided a wealth of information that helps to understand the importance of cave ceremonies in Maya culture. Above a large subterranean river ten ledges were discovered with abundant Mayan cultural material used in ceremonies.

Experience the essence of a meditative ambience as you glide on a canoe through an underground cave system and the sound of the paddle on the peaceful waters harmonizes with your heartbeat. While canoeing through the cave see large crystalline formation, skeletal remains and other cultural artifacts.

The evidence shows that the Maya were conducting numerous ceremonies for agricultural fertility, hunting and rain. Barton Creek is a large underground river system possibly over 4.5 miles long. This cave is located close to a Mennonite Community.
